The 17th annual  World Wine & Food Expo is once again ready to please all lovers of wine. Whether you’ve just purchased your first bottle on Merlot or have been collecting fine wine since the 1960’s, this year’s Wine Expo is sure to have something to please everyone. Check out the exciting line-up of activities and events for 2007.

Highlights this year include: 

  • More than 340 wines, most of which have never been available in our region until now;
  • Greater availability of some of the award winning wines (in some cases up to a 400% increase over normal volumes);
  • A different and more intimate format for this year’s Prestige Tasting which will feature some of the highest scoring and most expensive wines of the Expo.
  • A new, more energetic approach to an evening of Dinner and Wine for the Arts. This fun filled evening will feature some of the best wine values of the Expo, live music (and we mean fun dance music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s) and several silent auctions in support of Moncton’s performing arts jewel, the Capitol Theatre.
  • A fascinating selection of wine seminars conducted by winery representatives and wine professionals, some featuring food and wine pairings compliments of the incredible Superstore Chef’s;
  • Themed ‘Grand Tastings’ designed to will help you decide which wine experience is best for you.

Get involved in the Sackville Fall Fair, Sept 20-23

The Fall Fair Committee is looking for participants; crafters & artisans, floats for the parade, kids wanting to build a street cart, racers for the VON bed race, march in the shirt tail parade, or host a BBQ

Over the Sackville Fall Fair weekend, September 20-23, there are lots of ways to get involved! Start thinking now of how you want to join in the fun.

The Sackville Craft & Artisan Market at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre is currently looking for fine arts & crafts vendors. Full information on registering a booth is available here: Craft & Artisan Market Registration07 (246 KB PDF).

The Fall Fair Parade starts on Saturday at 1pm. Participate with your organization or business, build community spirit and pride. This year’s theme is “A Harvest of Fun.”

Sackville Farmer’s Market & Community Sale is designed for you to feature special products, fund raise for your community group or book a booth to promote your organization. Participate in this expanded event scheduled to take place on Saturday from 8am-noon in the Bridge Street Tent.

Get your silly costume on and march in the Annual Shirt Tail Parade on Friday at 10pm. This is a must for those with a free spirit and lots of energy. Prizes for participants and best costumes. Come ready to get a little crazy and entertain the crowds that will come out to witness this Sackville tradition.

Register for the Family Poker Rally scheduled for Sunday beginning at 10am. Featuring reality TV challenges for the young and young at heart, this challenging car rally will take you throughout the area and see those with the best poker hand at the end win cash prizes.

Happy Harry’s Street Cart Derby is a classic street cart derby. Kids make and decorate their cars and race down the York Street hill in a round robin tournament. Start thinking now about the best design and make sure you register in advance.

VON Rock, Roll ‘n’ Run Fundraiser is currently looking for groups who would like to collect pledges, decorate a hospital bed and race from the Sackville Memorial Hospital to the Drew Nursing home on Saturday morning at 9am. Raise funds for this valuable community group. Contact Diane Minshull at 536-3307 or the VON office at 536-0750 to register.

From 5-7pm on Saturday, there will be live local music in the Bridge Street Tent. The Fall Fair Committee is looking for local organizations who would like to host BBQs or other fundraisers during this time for the audience and create a family picnic atmosphere in the downtown.

Douglas Lochhead Day in Sackville, NB

Poetry, People and Pizza

You are invited to participate in a celebration of and tribute to Sackville’s Poet Laureate, Douglas Lochhead.

5:30 pm

Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre, Sackville, NB

Program to include:

• Theatrical tribute by Ron Kelly Spurles of Festival By The Marsh.

• Presentation by Janet Crawford of her original music and songs created with Douglas’s poetry as lyrics.

• Mayor Jamie Smith bringing official thanks to Douglas.

• Launch of new book: That Place By Tantramar, Sackville, New Brunswick, Poems by Douglas Lochhead. It is a collection of poetry given to the Town of Sackville by Douglas Lochhead. The book has been printed by Gaspereau Press and published by the Town of Sackville.

Illustrations are by Thaddeus Holownia, Dan Steeves, Rob Lyon and Peter Manchester. Books may be purchased (for $16.95 & tax) and signed on site.
