Moncton Art Studio Tours: November 1 - 2, 2008

Moncton – The City of Moncton is pleased to present the annual Art Studio Tours Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2, 2008, from noon to 5 p.m. For these two days, artists and galleries will open their doors to give the public a chance to “peek” into their studios, view their work, and learn about their artistic technique.

The Art Studio Tours are open to both amateur and professional artists and artisans. The tours aim to provide valuable exposure to local artists and raise the profile of arts in the community, all while allowing the public to learn more about local artists and the creation process.

“This yearly event provides the community with a rare opportunity to see first hand the fantastic work of local artists,” says Paulette Thériault, Moncton City councillor and chair of the Cultural Affairs and Heritage Committee. “It is our hope that events like this will introduce people to the dozens of galleries in Moncton offering a variety of exhibits, that are well worth visiting, not just on this occasion, but year-round.”

Participating Artists and Galleries:

Anne-Marie Sirois (Aberdeen Cultural Centre), 140 Botsford Street (Studio 18)

Cecil D’s Studio 134, 134 Church Street

Charlaine Gauthier (Crown Plaza, Foyer), 1005 Main Street

Galerie Sans Nom (Aberdeen Cultural Centre), 140 Botsford Street (Studio 16)

George Griffin, 492 Robinson Street

Georges Goguen, 35 Hedgewood Drive

Ginny (Virginia) Price, 183 Highfield Street

Gracia Hébert-Fawcett, 224 MacBeath Avenue

Heron Bay La Terrasse, 154 Church Street

Imago (Aberdeen Cultural Centre), 140 Botsford Street (Studio 35)

Joan Gregory, 1542 Main Street

La Galerie Maurice Henri, 73 Highfield Street

Louisa Barton-Duguay (Aberdeen Cultural Centre), 140 Botsford Street (Studio 4)

Moncton Art Society Gallery (Highfield Square), 1100 Main Street

Moncton Gallery (Moncton City Hall), 655 Main Street

Nicholas Frenette, 29 Morewood

Raymonde Fortin, 326 High Street

Sandstones Gallery (Blue Cross Centre), 644 Main Street

Sonia Blanchard, 287 Mountain Road

Studio Gauthier at the Creek, 107 Robinson Street

In addition to opening their doors, some participating galleries will also be offering unique and free programming to the public. Charlaine Gauthier’s studio at the Crowne Plaza, Heron Bay La Terrasse, and Sandstones Gallery are three tour stops that will put on an interactive art contest for those who will be taking in the Art Studio Tours.

“This concept is based on participating artist Charlaine Gauthier’s original idea to give the visiting public a hands-on artistic experience during the tour by creating a collective painting,” explains Councillor Thériault. “Those who help create this painting at Charlaine’s studio will have a chance to win the piece, which will be drawn at a later date at Moncton City Hall.”

While participants can follow this self-guided tour in the order of their choice, Heron Bay La Terrasse and Sandstones Gallery have offered to act as central or starting points for the tour. Staff will be on-hand at these locations to distribute Art Studio Tours brochures and offer art appreciation guidance to the public.

Information and tour maps are available at Moncton City Hall, 655 Main Street (open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and on the City’s website, moncton.ca (search words: studio tours).

Galeries et artistes participants :

Anne-Marie Sirois (Centre culturel Aberdeen), 140, rue Botsford (Studio 18)

Cecil D’s Studio 134, 134, rue Church

Learning to Live in the Moment

“An amazing life requires living in the moment”

Learn to live life in a much richer and more meaningful way, and to truly be present-not only to ourselves, but to others as well. Only when we become conscious of how and what we say to ourselves can we truly be fully present.

Until you get the false expectations and the other negative chatter out of your head, you’ll never accomplish your goals.
