Isaac & Blewett with HalfStrung - May 24th at Studio 700 - 7pm

May 21st, 2008

Saturday Night

Isaac & Blewett
with
HalfStrung

This coming Saturday May 24th, Isaac and Blewett will be performing at Studio 700. The duo were co-winners with Hot Toddy Trio of the 2007 Maple Blues Award for “ACOUSTIC GROUP of the YEAR for their joint effort titled “Live At The Black Box”.

Originally known as an acoustic blues act, they have broadened their sound, spinning out into new exciting musical territory. Eastern scales and melody, Isaac’s wah-wah fuelled atmospheric cello, and the banjo/guitar mantra of Blewett all manifest themselves in their soulful and raw music. They have recently released their forth CD titled “Live @ L’Escaouette” and are currently lining up artists for their annual concert series at the Harvey Hall. This popular series held in Harvey NB near Riverside/Albert provides an intimate setting for the duo to bring in some high caliber artists from across Canada. For anyone wishing to take in any of these concerts, it is suggested that you visit their website and join their mailing list and reservations are recommended as most of these shows sell out.

Joining the duo this coming Saturday are local Moncton acoustic Folk/Roots group HalfStrung. Originally a 4-piece group, they consist of 3 acoustic guitarists who are now sharing the bass playing duties until a suitable bassist becomes available. Each brings their own style of music to the group, ranging from heartfelt ballads such as a song about the Westray Mining Disaster, traditional folksong about an NB’er not moving away from home, and slightly humorous Blues/Roots compositions such as “Ode To Fred Sanford”. They are currently writing material for their second CD.

This Saturday’s show starts at 7PM at Studio 700. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Reid’s Newsstand on Main Street as well as at Studio 700 on Main. The cost of tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Greater Moncton Earth Day Festival, May 2,3,4 Moncton

May 1st, 2008

Greater Moncton Earth Day  Festival - 2008

(Moncton, New Brunswick) Chris Colepaugh, first up for  Earth Day festival concert.

Colepaugh and his band the Cosmic Crew will take the stage at 6pm on Friday May 2 at the Studio 7Hundred,  700 Main St. and will be followed by nine other local acts including Isaac and Blewett and a special reunion performance by Ide du Nord.

This Clean Energy Benefit Concert is day 1 of the Greater Moncton Earth Day Festival presented by the Conservation Council of N.-B., S.E. Chapter.

The festival continues on Saturday May 3rd, 2008, 2 - 4:30 pm with a Tri-Community Hike & Bike River Clean Up. From four starting points around the Petitcodiac Riverfront trail (see map at www.monctonearthday.com), participants will head towards the Riverfront Park next to the Fire Station on Assumption Blvd. where complimentary refreshments will be served, along with kids activities, entertainment, and eco-announcements.

Schools, churches and many companies have been contacted and asked to represent themselves with a team. Each community municipality has also been asked to announce in the park an upcoming environmental initiative.

Day 3 of the festival, Sunday May 4th, 2008, will consist of a Green Expo / Renewable Energy Trade Show at Bernice MacNaughton High School, St. George Blvd. from 11:00am - 5:00pm. The expo will feature:

  • Over 40 exhibitors: Eco-Conservation Groups, Outdoor Activity Associations, Renewable Energy Companies, and more.
  • Seminars: on Renewable Energy, Pesticide Free Landscaping, and Urban Gardening.
  • 50 foot long diner-buffet - opens at 12:30pm.
  • Organized activities for kids.

Head organizer, Olivier Weil explains “… that the festival in many ways is about transforming helplessness, indifference and anxiety into empowerment and motivation. People need to come together and hear less about problems and more about solutions.”

Brent Crowhurst, an engineer and expert on renewable energy with the Falls Brook Centre will be onsite at the festival’s expo to run a seminar and information kiosk about renewable energy. “People will have an opportunity to learn about how these technologies are being used on an individual and regional level. And with all this talk about uranium mining and a second nuclear power plant, New Brunswickers need to learn now more than ever about the dollars and cents of renewable energy.” explains Yvonne Devine, president of the New Brunswick Conservation Council, Southeast Chapter.
So set some time aside for the blue and green around you, and bring your friends and neighbours out on May 2, 3 and 4 to the Greater Moncton Earth Day Festival 2008.
